A week for reflection and perspective.

Hey yall how you all doing

Its been a good week. Got to love the Dominican electricity. Runnning all over town to use internet until the light goes away and having to another one but its all good. This week was better. We had a Zone Conference with Elder Viñas and that was really good. He talked about having a perspective and that we need to live the mission the way that we are going to want to tell our children we lived it and that theres nothing worse that when your son asks you what kind of a missionary you were and you have a guilty conscious. He made me remind myself that they little things matter. The little things are important. The little choices we make form who we are. Although we dont realize it but little by little the little things matter.
Its the end of the month so were pretty poor and have been starving. everyone at church yesterday kept saying how much skinnier we are haha. I believe it. I have never live on just bread for a week but I refused to not make the budget and i suceeded. (I am just glad I had an empty note book because toilet paper ran out too)
(I think I have a parasite so) maybe thats why im loosing weight too!(This sentence was edited for content by Tim.)
I got a bunch of cards this week which was nice cuz it had been a little while since i had gotten many. Got one from Jessie with some pictures of the family thanks for those! And from Brin and the sister missionary in argentina, and from the Kartchner´s FHE activity! THanks a bunch they made my day!
On Sunday, yesterday, we ate at the Jambati´s house again. They are the Haitian family with not much money. He made what little he did as a motorcylce taxi but in the last week he got robbed at gunpoint and the robbed his bike. They got 5 kids and no job now but still insisted on feed us and all the Young single adults. I really enjoyed it. I felt like part of them and that i was part of the convo. It felt really good. I love the ward here in Haina. i dont really wanna go. Its my new home for now. We also past by their house a different night to see how he was doing. His attitude is so amazing and so hopefully. MAde me feel bad for feeling bad for myslelf when his situation is a lot worse. He says sometimes he wants to ask why me but then reminds himself that every other time he asked why me, the Lord gave him those trials to bless him. He said that he was inactive for a while and was working away from home and he got laid off and (a long time ago happened this) he asked why me but went home and when he got home there was a pair of senior missionaries waiting for him at his door step and they helped him to be active again so he told us to never ask why me and just trust in the lord. it was a great message. he is amazing. The pictures of cutting hair are of him and his kids.
I love you all lots and im grateful for your love and support! Little things bring to pass marvelous work and wonders

Still in Haina when the dust settled

ok so we got some reviewing to do. From the week before. we had interviews with pres and the went very well. it was really nice to talk to him. the next day we had an intercambio with the zone leaders. again i went with elder canela. he went with both me and elder cuadra. so we worked in threesome. that night they stay with us and there werent enough beds so elder canela and i shared one. i am not sure why the biggest kid was the one to share but i didnt sleep to well that night. he helped us put a baptismal date with Leidi but I still dont think she is ready. she told us the next day she still wants more time. and that was about all that happened that week. we did get yelled at from this one guy claiming that he knew we were from the CIA haha.

Then for this week. we got a call while using internet and were told to go to our house and pack our bags. it ended up that i didnt have to leave but Elder Cuadra and one of the other guys left. so now i am companions with elder ferreras. Going on 11 comps in less than 10 months! Atleast i am getting to kno a lot of people! its been a little rough trying to push the two different areas into one. We are walking a ton because they are working on one side of town and us on the other.

We cannot leave our area for anything except conferences so that puts a limit on our pday activities and means a lot less food becasue theres not even a small supermarket in our area. we are going to have to see what we are going to do.

Like I told you all I wrote the Pres but he didnt write or call back yet. They say that there are a lot of special transfers going on here right now. Something must be going on but for now me and Elder Ferrerras are going to be the only ones here and theres only going to be two missionaries in the other ward in haina also. Its def different living in a two man house again. A lot more quiet.

This week was difficult but i was able to learn a lot. If was a bad spanish week haha I think it was just that I was distracted by other things but thats life sometime. I am doing great and will continue to do great. I love you all sooo much! thanks for all you do!

ps... hi to kennys aunt in Michigan. He told me that you read my blog and to tell you high! :) love you all so much

Hey family how are you all! I am doing well. Well I got my new comp, Elder Cuadra. He is from Miami but he parents are both latinos. His dad is from Cuba. Elder Baré also came. He is really tight. He is dieing this transfer. He is from Santiago.

This week was a good week. Monday night was crazy doing goodbye and stuff like that with elder schoenhals and elder Price. I sure do miss them both. We got fed a ton. inlcuding mondongo twice (pig intestines and colon) It is actually not tooo bad.

On thursday we had our zone meeting. I am the only gringo in my zone! And i am also the only one that grew up in the church. the rest of them are converts. It was kinda cool. they all told their conversion stories during the meeting and when it came to me i was just like ummm ya my ancestors were converts and came across the plains hahaha

I got letters this week from Bro Brown, Karlie, Maren, and Dearie. Thanks everyone for those. as always i love getting letters. I hadnt heard about the Unga thingy until dearies letter. I also got the package and I have been supporting my tie die shirt everyday! I love it hahah we wil have to mak e some more when i come home!

We oficial contacted another out house with a person bathing theirselves in side. that alwaya makes for an awkward moment.

I got to talk in church. it was pretty good i think. I didnt use any notes or anything. It was pretty cool. One of our investigators went and after wards her little boy told me that he wanted to be baptized and i asked why and he said so that he could eat bread and water when he was hungry. hha it made me laugh pretty good!

Well that is my week in a nut shell. It is pretty darn hot here. I am getting a lot of zits!!! But such is life. I love you all lots! THanks for all you do for me. I have the best family ever!

Stays in Haina.....New Comp Elder Cuadra

Hey Yall How you doing

I am doing great. Another week flown by. Transfer calls came last night. We were pretty sure that Elder Schoehnals and Elder Price were going to leave because they had 3 transfers here. We were right they both are leaving. I am getting a new comp. His name is Elder Cuadra. He grew up in the states but they say his family is from Mexico so he already knows spanish. They will be fun and should help out my spanish a lot. I am excited!

Were teaching a lady named Leidi and she had a friend over for a lesson. He asked where I was from and I said Arizona. You have to understand that everyday everyone is saying AMERICANO so sometimes we change things up and says we are from different places so long story short i had told her that i was from canada but i forgot and so we i said arizona bueno... she called me out on my lie. Luckily she has a pretty good sense of humor but it was really funny!

We had lunch yester with a great family. My favorite one here. They really dont have much but they gave all that they had for us to be able to eat there. It was kinda hard because there kids didnt have much to eat and i know that they didnt have much food but they wanted to show their love for us and refused to let us say no. Thats something that i really love about here. What ever people have, they give the best. They not only give but give the best of what they have.

Kilsi, a little girl got baptized on sat. She is pretty sick . Have intestinal problems. We werent going to baptize her because she was sooo young but we really felt it was the right thing to do so we did it. It was a great service.

That is about the extend of my week this week.nothing too extremely knew. I really have started to love the mission this last month or so between knowing more spanish and workin hard. I realize more and more each day how much i am learning from and how important these experiences are. I tihnk something really special about the mission is that we are given to oppurtunity to learn the love that comes from selfless service. Learning to love everyone on the mission will make it so much more easier to love the family. Idk its hard to explain but its soo awesome. I love you all so much more each day that goes by but tambien I am learning to rely on the Lord. Sometimes times are difficult and we are forced to completely rely on him. I am grateful for the knowledge I have of him as my Father in Heaven. He is always there for us. I love the Book of Mormon and the light that it gives to our lives. There is no other way to come closer to our Savior than the Book of Mormon. Its a great blessing. I love you all sooo much. I put you in my prayers everynight and can feel of your love and prayers. Until next week!
